How Does It Work?
Low Intensity Laser Therapy (LILT) or cold laser, stimulates
healing at the cellular level.
Since all tissue is made up of cells, LILT can be effective for
many different conditions whether it be a muscle, ligament, tendon
or even joint injury.
LILT stimulates the production of ATP (adenosine triphosphate),
the cell’s fuel source, not only from the nutrition we take
in, but from the light utilized in the treatment. DNA synthesis
is increased along with other cellular building blocks. LILT will
also increased blood flow thru the area treated in order to bring
in more oxygen and nutrients but to also remove the debris resulting
from the injury.
What To Expect
An initial consult is required to assess the injury and
to determine if you are a candidate of LILT. If you so choose, your
first treatment is administered immediately after the consult. The
treatment length varies from 30 mins to 60 mins depending upon the
body area treated. Though a few patients can
be sensitive to the treatment, the treatment is pain-free. Studies
have also shown there to be a 90% success rate with LILT.
In some cases, your therapist may choose to refer you to a massage
therapist or an Active-Release Practitioner for additional therapy
in order to
improve the efficacy of the LILT treatment.
